I'm a lifelong Godzilla fan disillusioned by recent entries from both sides of the Pacific, to the point that I don't feel particularly motivated to drag myself out to the theaters for this, and this essay makes it sound like Minus One has *exactly* the wishy-washy approach to its themes that I feared from this director. Interesting to hear they recreate the reporters-on-the-platform sequence from the original, maybe the highlight of that great film.
